Mana Pacific was on-the-move recently in the Pacific region, scoping the possibility of a volunteering programme in Niue and Tokelau.

Face-to-face conversations with leaders in Niue (Director, Dr Tracie Mafile'o) and the Tokelau National Office in Apia, Samoa (Research, Evaluation and Learning Lead, Fa'aeafale'upolu Samuelu), enabled us to learn about local priorities and how a volunteer programme could strengthen local capacity in Niue and Tokelau.

In Niue, Dr Mafile'o had the opportunity to give a public talk - Cultivating Research Sovereignty: Strengthening Local Research - unfolding into a fruitful talanoa; and Director, Taupo Tani, who also travelled to Niue, met the recipient of a Mana Pacific vehicle and IT equipment procurement (facilitated by SPC and funded by New Zealand) and could see how the procured items are contributing to water security in Niue.

Mana Pacific appreciates the privilege to be in-place and to share space across the Moana.

"What I appreciated most was the alofa from everyone, their knowledge and experiences, and how Tokelau was always the forefront of their talanoa."
